sustainable education.
SETTING EXAMPLES, INSPIRING COMMUNITIES.
JVF - NepalJhumlawang Village Foundation is a community based non-governmental organisation established by community members and diaspora members of the village in 2009. The mission of the foundation is to set an example of how members of the community, diaspora community, friends and well-wishers of our village can work together on sustainable-based development of "one village" to inspire other communities alike in Nepal.

How we Help

Help Us Learn and JVF met way back in 2012. We talked, drank and ate some rather splendid home cooked curry. After a while (and some red wine), we realised that we shared the same vision.
Work closely with the people who need our help and ask not what we can do for them, but what they can do for themselves.
With a little support we knew that we could help Jhumlawang Village with their dream of being able to provide their people with education and healthcare, provided by the people of their village. Inspiring the villages around them to do the same.
Today, Help Us Learn and JVF still meet regularly to discuss our progress and future plans. Every meeting leaves us more excited about the effect this partnership is having on the educational issues of Nepal.

primary school extension project

Current situation
Today, the school welcomes more than 200 children from our community- ranging from pre-schooling to class five.
Just three permanent teachers and one community-funded assistant teacher have to cover all teachings that leave at least two classes without any teacher at any given time.
Furthermore, the building does not meet very basic standards of school infrastructures like good natural light in classrooms, tables and benches to sit comfortably for students during their studies.
Then, after completing their primary level of studies, these children have no other options but to undertake a two-hour treacherous journey every day to go to Sima High School to continue their studies.

With your help, we hope to achieve

1. Students from Jhumlawang village will not have to make 2 hours journey through
difficult trails-from uphill to down and down to uphill every day to Sima School to
continue their further study of class 6, 7 and 8 grades. It will save their time and energy to
study after school and engage in other learning/sport activities.
2. The playground of the proposed building will have more spacious comparing to the
current school. This will ensure much comfort and safety for children for their extra
activities.
3. Children of early-childhood will be encouraged to attend the school so that, parents will
feel less burdened from small children to be looked after by their elder siblings. While
their children are in school, parents will have more time to look after their livestock,
work in their farmland, get involve in income generating programs, and also volunteer in
the community projects.
4. The proposed library within the building will serve children with wide ranges of learning
facilities equipped with course books, books on general knowledge, agriculture,
environment, arts, literature, science, sports including with audio visual facilities.
Teachers will find more resource materials to prepare for their teaching lessons.
